#7 Team process
EiT Facilitation Model
The purpose of facilitating teamwork is to teach the participants how to work in teams and how they hopefully can optimise their teamwork. Through observations and interventions, the facilitator enables the team to stop and reflect upon what is going on in the team and the evolvement of certain mechanisms and processes. It brings awareness of the process and the elements of the teamwork.
#8 Team process
The five dysfunctions of a team
By introducing and working with the levels of Lencioni’s model, the goal is to overcome the five dysfunctions and create the perfect team. Lencioni’s words about a perfect team are as follows: ”A perfect team is able to work together, ask each other for help, pull on each other’s competences, embrace faults and limitations, make qualified decisions and accomplish more in less time.
#9 Team process
Team operating model
The purpose of this exercise is to give the team an overview of the balance between the three elements based on each team member’s perception of it. The balance between the three elements is the key to a great team process where the team works well together, solves tasks and where team members are committed to each other.
#10 Team process
Sociogram
The purpose of the sociogram is to give the team a visual impression of the different communication aspects and flows in the team. A sociogram shows who participates in the team’s communication, who talks with whom, how long the different team members talk, how the question-answer pattern is, who asks the questions and who answers? It also shows which non-verbal communication patterns are present in the team such as eye contact, smiles and nodding.
#11 Team process
How much space do you take up in the team
The purpose of the exercise is to increase the team’s awareness of how and how much space each member takes up within the team. This overview allows each team member to adapt his or her own behavioural pattern. A way could be to give the rest of the team more space so that the team’s work becomes more efficient. This can train the team’s ability to express individual views and to provide feedback in a constructive way.
#12 Team process
The Conflict Matrix
The purpose of the tool is to practice the team’s ability to work with team dynamics and to handle conflicts. The team members should place their team in the model, discussing the depth and frequency of conflicts and looking at possible root causes of the conflicts (For example the five dysfunctions of a team or team
operating model). Then the team can become a more dynamic and constructive team. It promotes the likelihood of optimal collaboration and good performance in the team.
#13 Team process
Your contribution to the team
The purpose of the exercise is to visualise, understand and improve the self-awareness between the individual team members and the psychological roles within the team. Furthermore, the exercise will shed light on the dynamics of the team in cases where there is a disagreement between the team and the individual team member’s perception of own psychological role.
The purpose of ”Your contribution to the team” is to locate and select the psychological roles that each team member should contribute to the team. To reach a common understanding of the psychological roles, it is important to get a deeper understanding of each other. A common understanding is a great starting point for a team. It boosts collaboration within the team and it increases the chances that the right skills are used for the right task.
#14 Team process
Take turns as chairperson
The purpose of this exercise is to ensure effective meetings. The individual members train their ability to lead a meeting, to delegate tasks and ensure decision-making. It helps the team achieve its goals since the process of a meeting is strictly controlled. A chairperson makes sure that the team makes decisions collectively. The chairperson does not force through decisions.
