#17 Team evaluation sheet

⏱ Evaluation and feedback require time and consideration, so take time to practice.

𐀪 4-6 people

❔ The evaluation sheet is a combined evaluation and reflection tool.

background

The team evaluation sheet helps ensuring an ongoing development of teamwork skills.

purpose

The purpose of this exercise is to reflect on and evaluate the learning outcome and benefits of a completed team process. In this way, each team member becomes aware of the learning outcome and competencies gained through teamwork. Throughout the exercise, each team member can describe his or her experience of both him or herself and the other team members in relation to the team process
and results. What went well, what did not go well and why? Were there dysfunctions in the team? The evaluation has great value for the next teamwork process and for each team member in terms of the knowledge and skills that have now been achieved. These may be brought into play in new team processes, group assignments or other types of teamwork.

procedure

Each team member completes the form i  Appendix 2 and reflects on this. Why does the evaluation look as it does? What lies behind the evaluation and how can the evaluation be communicated to the others in the team in a constructive manner? Everyone fills in the evaluation, and each team member receives his or her evaluation from the other team members. The individual team members present their evaluation without comments from the others. Then the exercise continues with ‘feed-forward’ – please refer to #16. What can the individual team member, and the team as a whole, learn from the evaluation? It is important to look at aspects such as ‘what went well’ and ‘what can we do differently next time?’

practical matters

The value of the team evaluation exercis  increases when a facilitator manages time during the exercise. Likewise, it is important that the individual team member explains his or her evaluation regarding him or herself, the other team members and the team.

It is essential to get all reflections, evaluations and perceptions forward so that each team member learns from the exercise. It makes the team aware of how it functions and what the team could alter in future work processes.

In case the team should not continue working together, the exercise will still have value because it creates awareness of what makes a team function or the opposite. A thorough instruction and call for honest and open communication may enable the team to conduct the evaluation process without any help from a facilitator.
